Call for Artists: 3rd Summer @ SONYA

What did we do this summer?

A SONYArtists' Group  Exhibition of works inspired by summer.

September 30 – October 21, 2010
Opening: September 30, 7-9pm
Gallery Hours: Th-Fr, 4-7pm; Sat, 12-5pm

Artist and Artwork Eligibility:  Open to all current and valid members of SONYA and to all artists, 21 years and older, residing or working in the downtown Brooklyn area south of the Navy Yard who would like to join SONYA.

Media: All media will be considered, and sculptors are strongly encouraged to submit work for consideration.

Theme: Entered works must:

• have been completed within the past year, and
• must communicate “summer”, for instance:

o      Art inspired by the summer.

o      Art created this summer.

o      Art inspired by the community in the summer.

o      Art representing the colors of the summer.

o      Art influenced by events this summer.

Number of Works:  Up to three (3) completed works or one installation proposal may be submitted.

Entry Procedures:  Please follow this three-step online entry procedure:

1. Go to: www.sonyamembers.org. Find the Call to Artists: 3rd Summer@SONYA on the Events Calendar. Click on “Register” and enter your contact info and descriptions of the art you are submitting. Note: you may need to login before registering.
2. You'll receive a registration confirmation email.
3. Then send art images that match your descriptions or proposal as jpeg attachments to   Kennis@therisingartsgallery.com  using subject line: "3rd Summer @ SONYA".
   Images should not exceed 300kb each.

Submissions accepted Aug 5-31, 2010. 

Limitations:  All work will be given due consideration. The SONYA staff and the galleries reserve the right to reject work that the gallery is unable to physically accommodate or which differs from the submitted image.

We can only accommodate a limited number of participants. The amount of artwork to be displayed will depend on space and theme limitations weighed against the number of submissions received during the submission period.  Details of this exhibitions are subject to change. Please keep informed of its progress.

Contracts:  Artists will be asked to sign a contract between SONYA and the participating artists when they deliver work.  Contract will state responsibilities of SONYA, the participating galleries, and the participating artists.

Sales: SONYA accepts checks, made payable to S.O.N.Y.A. with artists name/artwork purchased on memo line;  MC, Visa, A/X credit cards; PayPal.  30% proceeds support SONYA's exhibitions and is tax-deductible.  70% of proceeds supports the visual artist.  Artist will be paid once SONYA receives payments in full.  

Commission: 30% (20% to SONYA's exhibitions budget, 10% to participating gallery)

Notification: Artists will be notified of which artwork(s) were accepted for the exhibition on or before Mon, Sept 13, 2010.

Delivery of Artworks: Participating artists are responsible for delivering their work to: TRA Gallery, 35 Claver Place, Brooklyn on Wednesday, September 22 or Thursday, September 23, 6-7pm both days.

ALL hanging work MUST HAVE A WIRE secure and strong enough to hold the piece.  No exceptions. Sculptors and artisans must provide pedestals for their work.

Entry Fee: There are no entry fees for this exhibition. All participants must be current SONYArtist members.  SONYA membership runs one calendar year from joining or updating date. To join SONYA, visit:  www.sonyaonline.org or www.sonyamembers.org

Volunteer: Artists will be encouraged to spend some portion of their yearly 6 hour volunteer contribution on this exhibition.  We will need a hanging crew and a hosting crew.
