Tour-goers follow a tour map that lists studio/gallery locations with a description of each artist’s work.

ELIGIBILITY

All artists registering for the Studio Stroll must be active SONYA members in good standing. Only registered Stroll artists may participate in the Prelude Exhibition. All professional visual artists, age 21+, with a studio or gallery within the boundaries of Flatbush, Atlantic, Bedford and Flushing Avenues (including the Brooklyn Navy Yard) are eligible to join SONYA. and are encouraged to register and participate in the Studio Stroll.

All work displayed must be original fine art created by the registered artist(s) for that location.

PRELUDE EXHIBITION, APRIL 29 – MAY 20

SONYA is partnering with the Myrtle Ave Revitalization Project (MARP) and Jones Contemporary Art to showcase Stroll artists and their artwork in key merchants and restaurants within our community. Participation is optional on a first come first served basis. Each registered artist or associate member may submit one work that is representative of what will be shown at their Studio Stroll location. There is a 30% commission fee on work sold at the Prelude Exhibition venues. SONYA charges no commission fees for work sold at the registered artists Studio Stroll locations.

STROLL ARTISTS’ SHARE PARTY

RETURNING! Participating artists will be invited to local venue (date/place tba) to meet each other and share their work in a 1 minute per artist fast paced slide show presentation. Includes a cash bar and appetizers.

VIP ARTY PARTY

Participating artists and their guests are invited to a special cocktail party where we will present our art and latest Stroll news. Date and place tba.

PUBLICITY

Publicity includes press releases, calendar listings, display ads, flyers, posters, brochure mailings, and internet blog postings, emails and snail mail.

Studio Stroll artists are responsible for their own mailings and are encouraged to promote their location as well as neighboring Stroll Artists.

The SONYA web site, www.sonyaonline.org, features each Studio Stroll artist. Included are two images of the artist’s work, artist statement, contact info and links to their personal web site. Because these pages are used to promote your artwork, it is imperative that your art images be current.

STUDIO PREP and PUBLIC ACCESS

Stroll artists are responsible for securing permission from landlords, studio mates, etc. to allow public access to their venue. Artists are expected to have their venue open promptly at noon on both days of the Stroll and be present (or have a representative present) during the entire Stroll weekend.

Stroll artists are responsible for setting up their own studio and displaying their work to the public. Artists may also consider having a guest book, promotional materials, and extra tour maps readily available to visitors. Stroll artists must display SONYA published signage to designate their location by noon of each day. Extra signs and banners will be available in case of loss or damage.

Each location is encouraged to offer light non-greasy refreshments to tour going visitors.

Artists are strongly encouraged to recruit assistants so that they can focus most of their attention on their guests. Assistants can be responsible for greeting tour-goers and processing sales. They are invited to the Arty Party as our honored guests!

SECURITY

SONYA is not liable or responsible for the security of artists’ artwork or studio space. Artists are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of their artwork, equipment, display, and any of their personal belongings in their home/studio.
